We use a lot of different metrics to measure our performance as investors. But the one we’re most proud of is that 17 founders (so far) have come back to team up with us a second time to build their next companies.

Our Philosophy
Our name and logo design get to the heart of who we are—and both pay tribute to Boston and Red Sox legend Ted Williams.
For those unfamiliar (or, heaven forbid, Yankee fans), Boston Red Sox legend Ted Williams achieved an unsurpassed .406 batting average in the 1941 baseball season. Ted was rare in that he understood that while a pitch may be a strike, swinging at only those uniquely suited to his swing, in what he called his “happy zone,” would maximize his chance of success. So he let a lot of strikes go as he became the best hitter to have ever lived.
We embrace the same philosophy in our investment strategy. There are a lot of great opportunities out there, but playing to our strengths and knowing where we have the best chance to hit it out of the park is at the core of how we work.

In late 2005, Larry Begley, Maria Cirino, and Liam Donohue set out to build a venture firm composed of the kind of investors they would have wanted themselves: people committed to getting in the trenches and staying there with you for the long haul.
We want to earn the right to be the board member you call first – whether you need to share good or bad news. We understand how hard it is to build pioneering companies and seek to bring our perspective, scar tissue, and advice as a hands-on partner without any pontification or arrogance.
