Veracode, a cybersecurity firm based in Burlington, aims to boost its headcount from by roughly 100 workers worldwide by the end of 2015 amid a surge in demand among companies combating online threats.

More than half of the new hires will be based in Burlington, and the positions will range from engineers to sales and marketing, CEO Bob Brennan said in an interview. The hiring spree will push Veracode's headcount to around 480 workers, compared to its current 380.

"It's all across (positions) but the emphasis at Veracode will always be around the making and selling of software," he said. The company was founded in 2006.

While Brennan declined to identify his customers, he said Veracode's cybersecurity software is used by at least 28 Fortune 100 companies and three of the nation's top banks.

"What we do matters," he said. "If we can fulfill on our potential as a company, we help every other company fulfill on their potential."

Veracode has no plans to leave its Burlington headquarters, Brennan said.

"There's no more fertile ground from which to build a security company. We love Boston and Burlington is our home ... and we'd like to stay here as long as possible," Brennan said. In June, the company hired lawyers and auditors to prepare for a potential initial public offering.

Among recent key hires was general counsel Dean Breda, who was formerly general counsel for Cambridge-based Zipcar, which went public in 2011 before being acquired by Avis in 2013. Veracode would be Breda's fourth IPO, Brennan said. Prior to Zipcar, Breda was general counsel at Burlington-based Demandware (NYSE: DWRE).

Brennan declined to comment on the company's IPO plans. Instead, he said "we deeply feel an obligation to building a company that stands the test of time."

Veracode also has an international office in London.
